Shouldn’t the church be telling people how to vote?
Derek addresses whether the church should guide people on how to vote and explores the tension between faith and politics:
- Politics has been injected into every part of our lives. Christians should be aware of the potential danger when politics becomes a religion and overshadows the gospel.
- We must love our enemies and not let contempt, born of anger and disgust, take over. Jesus called us to a higher standard in how we relate to each other.
- The church’s job isn’t to take political sides but to declare allegiance to Jesus. Our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20).
- We should use our faith filter before our political filter and focus on uniting diverse communities under Christ’s love rather than political parties.

Redefining What It Means to Be “Called to Ministry”
Derek and guest Andrea Bierer discuss how being “called to ministry” can happen outside the walls of the church, drawing from Andrea and Doug’s story:
